A few years after the “Free Britney” movement, Britney Spears has been doing her own thing, but everything has gone rather south after her DUI arrest. And one of her friends says the timing of it all is so off.

Spears’ former personal assistant and current friend, Sean Phillip, recently told Extra that he feels something nefarious may be happening behind the scenes after Spears’ arrest.
“I think there are some people out to get her,” he said, adding that “the timing is so off” since Spears sold her music rights for a huge sum. “Then she’s arrested. We all think it’s a push to put her back in a conservatorship because guess what happened when the conservatorship stopped? People stopped getting money.”
He added, “I don’t think she’s free. There’s still a care plan in place. I personally don’t think she has access to all her finances, but a lot of other people do, and I don’t think it’s fair.”
He worked with her for quite some time and has been friends with her the past couple of decades. They reconnected recently, and said: “It’s just been, like, nice. [We] send each other funny stuff … It’s just been nothing but funny conversations and joy.”
He added, “I encourage her to speak for herself cause she can squash everything in a second.”

In case you missed it, Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) on March 4. In a statement released by Spears’ rep to People, “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
They added, “Her boys are going to be spending time with her,” they continued. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
