Huddersfield ready to reach new heights together

MAN v FAT Huddersfield’s players will be undertaking a huge charity challenge soon, with a view to raising funds for three charities close to the players’ hearts.

Speaking about the Man vs Mountain challenge, Coach Paul Stephenson said: “This all came about really because some of the lads wanted to do something a bit different together to make a difference, after a few suggestions we landed on climbing a mountain – because why not!

“This July, across two weekends (5th & 12th) players from MAN v FAT Huddersfield Football will be taking on an incredible challenge, the players will be completing the Snowdon Circular route in Wales to raise awareness and funds for three amazing charities that support mental health and young people in the UK.

“Together, our goal is to raise £2,000 for three amazing charities that make a real difference.”

Those charities benefitting from the Huddersfield lads’ hard work are as follows:-

👌Andy’s Man Club – supporting men’s mental health
🧠The Burnt Chef Project – tackling mental health stigma in hospitality
💚Barnardo’s – supporting vulnerable children and young people

Paul continued: “This challenge is more than climbing a mountain, it’s about supporting mental health, helping young people and proving what teamwork and community can achieve.”

Challenge Details:-

Location – Snowdon, Wales
Date – 5th & 12th July
Collective Target – £2,000
Fundraising Link – Crowdfunding For Good From JustGiving

Heading up Snowdon is the latest in some great off field activities at MAN v FAT Huddersfield, as the community spirit in the club continues to go from strength to strength.

Beyond the weekly sessions, the group has cultivated a busy social calendar to keep spirits high. These include:-

  • Social Gatherings: Dedicated “MAN v FAT socials” and team meals
  • Celebrations: Team award nights to recognize achievements.
  • Games and Leisure: Playing darts together.
  • Travel: Organized away trips, such as a booked night in Blackpool following an 11-a-side game.

These have played a big part in bringing the lads together, and Paul continued: “The lads view these social events as vital components of the MAN v FAT experience, rather than just “extras”.

“Social events help players feel more comfortable with one another, which translates directly into better confidence and chemistry during games.

“For many, like James and Connor who play in the club, these events provide a rare and necessary break from the pressures of running a business, work commitments, or family life.

“The off-field bond acts as a support system. Andrew from MAN v FAT Huddersfield highlights that the impact on his mental health is “immeasurable,” while Connor attributes his improved confidence in his professional life to the community he found at MAN v FAT.”

How has 2026 gone so far for the lads in terms of their weight loss and wellbeing improvements?

While the “scales” don’t always tell the full story, the physical and mental transformations are evident and Huddersfield has been one of 2026’s success stories across the MAN v FAT community.

The club is about much more than just the scoreline on the pitch. Based on experiences shared by some of the lads, the recurring theme for 2026 is that non-scale victories – like fitting into smaller clothes, improved mental clarity and a safe space to share vulnerabilities are the most significant aspect of joining and remaining at MAN v FAT.

Paul concluded: “Many players have commented that they never thought they would be able to play football again but MAN v FAT and this community have given them the opportunity to do so and with that comes confidence!”
