Hugh Jackman‘s new romance with Sutton Foster may have become an issue with fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman.
The A-list actress was friends with Jackman and his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, for years, so his blossoming relationship with Foster does make the situation a bit awkward. “It’s not as though she was cheering the end of Hugh and Deb’s marriage. Nicole was very sad they couldn’t work it out,” an insider told the National Examiner.
Still, it sounds like Kidman’s decision to stay friends with the Wolverine star has upset Furness. “It has not gone over so well with Deb, though,” the source continued. “She’s pretty upset that Nicole isn’t siding with her on this. It’s a line in the sand for her, and Nicole has crossed it.”

It’s understandable that Furness is upset since she was reportedly “blindsided” by her husband of 27 years’ alleged affair, but it’s also hard for friends like Kidman to navigate the path forward. The insider said that Kidman “recognizes Hugh is madly in love with his new girlfriend, and she’s given him her thumbs-up because she believes everyone should follow their heart.”
When Jackman and Furness first split in September 2023, their joint statement to People sounded rather friendly. “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness,” they wrote. “We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
Once Furness filed for divorce in May 2025, their former friendship seemed rather frosty. She gave a statement to the Daily Mail, hinting at Jackman’s reported fling with Foster.
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal. It’s a profound wound that cuts deep; however, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us,” she said in the statement.
Kidman described Jackman and Furness as “some of my best friends” during her divorce from Tom Cruise. When I got divorced, Hugh and Deb were so much a part of my healing. They were some of my best friends through that period,” she told Now To Love in May 2019 about the former couple letting her stay over their house during her divorce.
So, it’s understandable that Furness might feel the sting if Kidman is still friendly with her ex. Divorce is a tough battle to navigate for everyone involved.
