‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’ Film to Be Released In 2028

Fans of Dr. Seuss’ Oh, the Places You’ll Go! finally know when the film adaptation will go to the big screen. On January 27, 2025, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation announced the film will be released theatrically in IMAX on March 17, 2028.

As reported originally by Deadline, the film will be co-directed by Wicked director Jon M. Chu and Abominable’s Jill Culton, with the screenplay written by Rob Lieber (Peter Rabbit). EGOT winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are also prepping original songs for the film.

Chu confirmed the news on January 28, 2025 via his Instagram Stories, writing in a caption, “Oh what a team for my first animated movie. Coming ’28.”

Families Will Go to New Places on the Big Screen

The Oh, the Places You’ll Go! children’s book was first released in 1990 and was the final Dr. Seuss book published during his lifetime (he died a year later at 87).

According to Deadline, the movie adaptation, produced by Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams, along with Gregg Taylor and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, “is the blueprint for a globetrotting animated musical, which follows a young adventurer as they journey the joys and heartaches and the peaks and the valleys of life.”

With Chu coming off a run with the record-breaking Wicked—also nominated for plenty of awards this year—his reputation as a premier musical director is only growing. And with Culton’s respectable history working on family films, including titles like Toy Story and Monsters Inc., this upcoming Dr. Seuss adaptation looks promising.
