The Power of Routine: Why Your Routine Is the Secret to Success

The Power of Routine: Why Your Routine Is the Secret to Success

Sometimes, you feel like you’re not moving forward in life at all.

I read somewhere that, despite this feeling, you still need to move on.

The most challenging days are those when you want to follow a routine but aren’t mentally prepared to do so.

My day didn’t start badly.

I read a few pages of a book before leaving my bed, helped the boys wake up and get ready for their morning music classes, checked the washing machine and did the laundry, and assisted my wife in the garden.

Everything was going great until we ended up fighting over something silly.

In relationships, there should be boundaries.

When both partners agree on something, it’s better to respect it.

But Sophia crossed the line.

I didn’t shout or create a scene; I just kept quiet.

She understood something was wrong, but it was already too late.

In the past, whenever I got upset, it caused such a psychological setback that my daily routine was disrupted.

But over time, I realized that’s not right.

Small or big setbacks shouldn’t dictate who you are and what you want to do with your life.

You need to keep going and follow your routine.

Though I felt terrible at the moment, I completed my breakfast and headed for the gym.

On the way to the gym, I felt I needed a break from everything.

I needed a break from Sophia, from the boys, from my job, and from everything else.

But I kept driving for the next 10 minutes until I reached the gym.

I looked at my chart, completed my stretching slowly for 30 minutes, and then approached my trainer, complaining about a muscle pain in my right chest.

After a quick discussion, I dropped the plan of a chest workout and focused on back muscles and biceps for the day.

It took me a little longer to complete all seven lifting exercises for back and biceps.

But after an hour and thirty minutes, I was happy to have completed everything.

I was happy not only to complete all the sets and reps but also to have followed my routine despite being very upset in the morning.

I know sometimes we find it difficult, personally or professionally, to keep going.

Sometimes your partner, your kids, your colleagues may not meet your expectations.

Sometimes everything will look bad to you.

But you need to keep moving and focus on your routine.

That’s the best justice you can do for yourself.

Get up.

Go for a run.

Have a cold shower.

Be nice to your friends, family, and colleagues.

Don’t lose sight of your routine, whatever situation you’re in.

Lift weights, do stretching, don’t skip a meal, and sleep well until you feel good again.

In the end, everything will be alright.

P.S. — I’m documenting my everyday life here as a journal.

Today, I was emotionally down but kept pushing myself to show up at the gym and focus on the exercises. The end result was wonderful. I am at peace as I am writing today’s journal here.

Journal Date — April 8th, 2025. Time: 11:00 AM CST/CDT.
